With Karen

In these 2x 1hr sessions, Karen will discuss strategies for your organisation's values and capability framework with you and give practical advice on where it stands and where the gaps are.

Dr Karen Patterson is Ausmed's Chief Nursing Officer. She was previously Director of Capability and Culture at the Clinical Excellence Commission, where she helped shape the Healthcare Safety and Quality Capability work through the CEC Academy.

Karen is an author of the ACHSM Master Health Service Management Competency Framework. As a Board Director for a professional college and a Non-Executive Director for a third sector health organisation, she brings a Board-level view: how to engage directors and align capability building to organisational strategy.

What is
Value Based Healthcare?

Value-based health care means investing in outcomes, not activity. It measures success by the health results that matter to patients, relative to the cost of achieving them, and holds workforce capability as central to getting there.

In care, everything is connected. A capable workforce delivers better clinical care. Better care improves patient outcomes and experience. And when patients do better, so do the people caring for them: staff feel proud of the work, stay longer, and keep building the capability that started the cycle. We call this the Virtuous Cycle (see diagram).

We'll be unpacking what it means for you and your organisation in The Build Bulletin over the coming weeks. Sign up now so you don't miss out!
